In the last weeks the understanding between handlers and dogs significantly got more intense and their performance on the field reached excellent levels, under the supervision of the trainer Raúl Martín.
In addition to the training and to the search for the bites and carcasses also a class was held to better analyze some significant features in the management of the poisoning cases, already tackled in some previous occasions, such as the analysis of the crime scene, the collection of the found elements and the writing of the related minutes. The issues have been faced by the veterinarian Luigi Mastrogiuseppe from Molise's Regional Health Public Utility and by the First Manager of the State Forestry Corps Luciano Sammarone.
The course, which lasted four weeks, ended with a structured test regarding the skills gained by the handlers and divided into theoretical and practical sessions.
The dogs were transferred to their operational headquarters, situated by the Territorial Coordinations for Environment of the State Forestry Corps from five national parks (1. Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna; 2. Monti Sibillini; 3. Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise; 5. Cilento, Valle di Diano e Alburni; 6. Pollino) and by the Provincial Headquarters of Isernia (4.), in Molise.
During the next weeks the handlers will carry on with their training and will collaborate with their dogs in the carrying out of research activities in different types of environments compared with those they have worked until now; once completed this delicate adaptation phase, the Units will be fully operative in their jurisdiction territories.
