The Reference Centre, gathering and analysing the data coming from the national network of Italian Experimental Zoo prophylactic Institutes, has developed, on behalf of the Ministry of Health, a portal that allows the complete computerized management of suspected cases by the experts (from the complaint to the results of laboratory analysis) and the monitoring of the phenomenon both by the police authority and by ordinary citizens.
The Portal https://avvelenamenti.izslt.it/ provides information on each region about wildlife poisoning and makes it possible to consult maps showing cases and detailed information about geo-referenced poisonings recorded in Italy, very useful to locate areas where the phenomenon of poison use is particularly present.
The Portal also contains references of the current legislation and gives the opportunity to download informative and technical products, and information relating to training courses.
A private area allows vets to send computerized documents to the competent authorities, according with current regulations (Ministerial Order (M.O.) of 13 June 2016 and subsequent amendments) in cases of suspected poisonings and allows individuals identified by the M.O. to access the reports produced by the Experimental Zoo prophylactic Institutes (IIZZSS).
The information relating to the reported poisoning cases could quickly circulate among the various subjects legally involved (mayors, vets, judicial authorities and police), allowing, in case of poisoning confirmation, to promptly act as required by law.
Please note that the last M.O. on the subject was issued by the Ministry of Health on 12 July 2019 (Regulations on the prohibition of the use and possession of lures or poisoned baits).
